My Works: Welcome

TREE FROG

a.png

Designed - 22nd October 2018

I started work on a tree frog design in 2013 - https://www.flickr.com/photos/dangermax/9556107937 - but I did not finish it. 5 years later I revisited the design and managed to turn it into a proper model with a colour change belly. The central structure (where the eyes come from) is unchanged but the rest is completely different.

SKULL

Skull front.png

Designed - 30th July 2018

Based on a 64x64 grid. With this model I wanted to create a 3D skull with individual teeth included in the design which led to a rather complex cp. There are 24 individual teeth in total (less than the normal 32) but I am still very happy with the result.

BUTTERFLY 3.0

Butterfly 3.0 1.png

Designed - 28th March 2018

I really like the colour change in this model when viewed from above and it has a simple and fun folding sequence and only takes around 45 minutes to fold (excluding shaping with mc)
Folded from a 30x30cm square of double tissue paper treated with mc.

DRAGON 2.0

Dragon 2.0.png

Designed - 2nd February 2018

This model uses the same head structure as my other dragons but this time I decided against another centre horn opting for a tongue instead. The legs get quite thick and the wings are a little hard to shape but on the whole I am very pleased with the result.

TURTLE 2.0

Turtle 1.png

Designed 25th December 2017

This is my second attemt at a turtle design. This time I started by coming up with a shell pattern tesselation. I tried different shapes - long, thin, wide etc and settled on the current design.

PEACOCK 2.0

Peacock 2.png

Designed - 12th November 2017

My previous attempt at a peacock design was based on diagonal symmetry and used many angle bisectors to produce the tail. For this version I used vertical symmetry so that I could box pleat the tail and create an equal tail spread.

MEGALOSAURUS

Megalosaurus 1.png

Designed - 9th July 2017

I love origami models with teeth - Shuki Kato's Giganotosaurus and Nguyen Hung Cuong's Shark are two of my favourite models. With this design I started with the jaw to make sure it had teeth, then I worked backwards to create the rest of the model.

BUZZARD

Designed - 31st May 2017

This is my second attempt at a bird design. It is a simple 22.5 degree structure and doesn't take too long to fold.

PLESIOSAURUS

Designed - 9th March 2017

I had never designed a prehistoric origami creature before so I chose to make a plesiosaurus. It has a nice and easy folding sequence but does require thin paper for a good result.

HORSE

Horse 2.png

Designed - 12th February 2017

This model was inspired by Shuki Kato's slanted grid design technique. Although this model only has just over 200 steps, I think it is the most complex model I have designed.

SNAIL

Designed - 19th November 2016

This is a simple model with an effective colour change. It came out very well given that I used printer paper that had a solid orange/brown colour printed on the other side.
